The hookah lounge

Hookah is served in the lounge, at the table, and not to take away. It is the reason the evenings here run long: a table orders a hookah, a round of mojitos and a plate of something from the sweets tray, and stays. Layali means nights, and this is what the name is for.

The flavours

Ten are normally carried: Double Apple, Mint, Grape and Mint, Lemon and Mint, Watermelon and Mint, Blueberry and Mint, Peach, Gum and Mint, Love 66, and the Layali Special Mix, the house blend. What is on the board tonight, and what it costs, is best asked at the counter; the flavour list on this page is the one we normally carry rather than a promise about a particular evening, and the price is not published on this site.

Not a bar

There is no alcohol on the premises and no alcohol licence. The drink to have with a hookah here is a mojito from the mocktail bar, a fresh juice, a Turkish coffee or a glass of Syrian tea. That is the ordinary way to do it across the Levant, and it is what keeps the room family-friendly at the tables that are not smoking.

The rest of the evening

A hookah table usually orders across the menu over an hour or two: mezze and za'atar pies to start, crepes or waffles, then coffee and the sweets tray. The lounge is busiest on Friday and Saturday, when the counter is open until 1 AM, and a table of six or more should book through the booking page rather than walk in.
